Research areas
Nutrition for maternal and child health
Proper nutrition from preconception through early childhood lays the foundation for lifelong health. Collaborating with faculty across nutrition disciplines, we work to improve health and nutrition of mothers, infants and children.
Nutrition for metabolic health
Chronic metabolic disorders like obesity, fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes are increasing rapidly. Through translational research, from cells to society, we uncover how nutrient metabolism can enhance metabolic health.
Nutrition for public health and equity
Diet composition and quality vary widely across populations. We examine nutrition’s impact on public health and explore policies, programs and services to support communities disproportionately affected by diet-related chronic conditions.
Nutrition for precision health
Nutrition and health are deeply interconnected, yet standard dietary guidelines may not suit all individuals. We’re designing a holistic approach to personalized nutrition, integrating genetics, diet, circadian rhythms, health status, socioeconomic factors, food environments, physical activity and the microbiome to improve individual and population health.

Our research impact
we centrifuged, or spun down, our samples and that separated out the plasma in the serum from our actual red blood cells. So then we can isolate the serum, and next time, look at our iron levels, to see if there's anyone who has iron deficiency anemia or other diseases. We looked at our blood glucose levels, which was really cool to see. And I have never figured out what my blood type was, so it was cool to see that I’m B positive, which is a good mantra for
life, just to be positive.
