Our trailblazing alumni

Osei Boateng ’18, MHA ’20 

Boateng (left, working in Ghana) earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology, Health and Society and a master of health administration degree from Cornell. He founded the OKB Hope Foundation to provide health education and outreach in rural communities across Ghana. He was selected as one of the “Top 10 CNN Heroes of 2023" for his innovative humanitarian work.

Monique Hall ’14 

Hall majored in Human Development in CHE, where the flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum allowed her to explore her interests — and eventually realize her dream of writing for children’s television. After getting a master’s degree in technology, innovation and education from Harvard, she became a writer for Sesame Workshop; she won an Emmy for her writing in 2023. 

Jeanne Douglass Diaz ’10

As the design director for GK Elite Sportswear, Diaz spearheaded the creation of the uniforms that Team USA gymnastics wore at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Diaz majored in Textiles and Apparel and started working at GK Elite right after graduation. She now has three Olympics to her credit, having also worked on the Rio and Tokyo games.

What can I do with a degree in ... ?

Our graduates are changing the world in the design and technology industries across user experience, design strategy, interiors, architecture and sustainability. DEA graduates are part designer, part psychologist, researcher and business strategist. The breadth and depth of their unique education coupled with their practical experiences result in careers that span a range of professional opportunities.

Graduates have gone on to study architecture, design and other fields at institutions like:

Alumni are designers, product developers, buyers, marketing managers, communicators, data application developers and financial analysts for influential fashion houses and retailers or entrepreneurs under their own labels. Graduates also do specialized design in fields such as elite athletics and the protective clothing industry, and use their creativity in public-relations, fashion journalism, publishing and theater design.

Students who go on to graduate work are well prepared for programs in business administration, art business, communications, marketing, law, museum studies, apparel design, costume history, textile design and theatrical costuming. They have attended institutions like:

Fiber Science graduates have begun careers in the fiber, textile and chemical industries, as well as with government agencies developing and evaluating new products, conducting research, providing technical services, helping to ensure product safety, and coordinating consumer information programs. Some work with materials development for athletic product manufacturers or materials safety for baby products, while others explore sustainability innovations.

Many students pursue graduate studies in fibers, textiles, polymers, materials science or other science and engineering fields at schools such as:

The broad perspectives of the program prepares them for the complex settings, organizations and specialties they will encounter in their advanced study.

Students who seek employment immediately after graduation can apply their strong background in the biological and the social aspects of health to positions in research, communications, education and business.

In recent years, graduates have been offered admission to numerous medical schools, including Albert Einstein, Baylor, Cornell, Mount Sinai, Vanderbilt and Yale, as well as Harvard and Columbia dental schools.

HD students have diverse interests and career trajectories including working with people across the lifespan (education, pediatrics, child clinical psychology, gerontology, social work, etc.) or pursuing careers in business, research or policy.

Students go on to graduate programs in psychology, human development or a related field, as well as professional programs in health-related fields (including medicine, dentistry, nursing) or law, at institutions like:

The Nutritional Sciences major prepares students for careers in many nutrition-related fields, including medicine/health, research, fitness and sports nutrition, nutrition counseling, clinical nutrition, dietetics, nutritional biochemistry, community nutrition and nutrition education.

Students interested in becoming Registered Dietitians may complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).

Students who want to pursue graduate studies in physical therapy can complete the minor in Applied Exercise Science and take courses in kinesiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics of human movement at nearby Ithaca College.

In recent years, graduates have been offered admission to many medical schools, including Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, University of Chicago and Yale. They have also been admitted to a range of prestigious dietetic internships and graduate programs in public health and physical therapy.
