Overview

Cornell Human Ecology (CHE) is launching a new summer internship program in New York City (NYC) for undergraduate students. For summer 2024, the internship will focus on youth development and students will be placed at the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem (BGCH). Interns will assist with implementing programming for middle and high school students, program evaluation, and administrative tasks to support the BGCH.

Schedule

  • June 1st: Move-in
  • June 2nd: Cornell Internship Welcome Event 
  • June 3rd – August 2nd:
    • Monday-Thursday: On-site at BGCH
    • Friday: Engage in reflection activities, professional development (e.g., career panels, shadowing), and field trips (e.g., museums). 
    • August 2nd: Presentations & Celebration 

Eligibility

Applicants must be current Cornell Human Ecology undergraduate students (not graduating before December 2024) in good academic standing. Prior experience working and/or volunteering with youth in urban settings is preferred, though not required. 

Additional Requirements for Selected CHE Students:  

  1. Complete the following Collaborative Institutional Training (CITI) courses: IRB Human Participant Research Training, Responsible Conduct of Research (full course), and Financial Conflicts of Interest Related to Research
  2. RMI 101: Protecting Children & RMI 103: Boundary Training for Educators
  3. The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem will have additional requirements to work with youth on the premises (e.g., background check).
  4. Additional trainings may be required.

Stipend & Housing 

Interns will receive a $6,000 stipend, distributed in three $2,000 installments on 6/1, 7/1, and on 8/1. 
 
Students who need housing will be invited to stay in a furnished 2-occupancy room at the YMCA on 92nd street in Harlem at no cost for summer 2024. If you need housing, please note this in your application.
