From bowling lanes to medical school, Wells Lee ’26 finds his path in Human Ecology
Wells Lee ’26 was in the middle of bowling practice when his phone rang. He almost let it go to voicemail.
But something made him step away from the lanes. Moments later, he was outside the bowling alley, listening as the voice on the other end of the line told him that he had been accepted to medical school.
“I was like, I’ve got to take this,” Lee said. “I just ran out.”

Designing Hybrid Skins: An Exhibition by the Hybrid Body Lab
The Hybrid Body Lab is dedicated to developing Hybrid Skins—culturally inspired, flexible interfaces that enhance the human experience. This exhibition brings together selected works from the lab spanning 2019 to 2026, alongside projects created through the Hybrid Body Lab Artist Residency.
Bridging engineering, design, and community-engaged research, the lab explores how these intimate technologies can reflect—rather than constrain—the complexity, diversity, and expressiveness of human life.

Designing a Systems Architecture for Biobased Manufacturing with Industrial Hemp
Industrial hemp is standing at a threshold between legacy and innovation. Oregon State University’s (OSU) Global Hemp Innovation Center (GHIC) is advancing a model for how plant-based systems can transform the future of materials, design, and advanced manufacturing. This presentation introduces a “gene-to-plant-to-field-to-factory-to-fashion” framework that uses a systems approach linking molecular genetics, agronomy, processing technology, and apparel design into an integrated biobased manufacturing ecosystem with the research, engagement, and educational components needed to support it

How CHE students spent their summer ’24
Each summer, Cornell Human Ecology students have the chance to learn outside the classroom and gain real-world experience through internships, research with faculty and other opportunities.
We asked six undergrads to share their summer 2024 experiences in their own words, from interning at a design firm in London to engaging with the local community at farmers markets across upstate New York to working with teenagers in Harlem on nutrition education.
