Wendy M. Williams is a Professor in the Department of Human Development at Cornell University, where she studies the development, assessment, training, and societal implications of intelligence and cognitive performance in real-world contexts. She holds Ph.D. and Master's degrees in psychology from Yale University, a Master's in physical anthropology from Yale, and a B.A. in English and biology from Columbia University, awarded cum laude with special distinction. On a recent afternoon, four women gathered in the Cornell Fashion + Textile Collection (CF+TC) in Cornell Human Ecology (CHE) to “mine” the collection. The collaborators were preparing an exhibit for the upcoming film screening of “Sunset Boulevard,” and selecting garments that embody main character Norma Desmond, an aging relic from the silent film industry who aspires to recapture her faded glory.

Internships combine community-engaged learning and professional development

With nearly half of all internships unpaid, many college students face financial barriers and unequal access to professional opportunities. The CHE in NYC summer internship is fully funded, helping close that gap. It places Cornell Human Ecology students with community organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem.

Kim Pietro joins Human Ecology as assistant dean for Alumni Affairs and Development

This fall, Kim Pietro joined the College of Human Ecology as assistant dean for alumni affairs and development. Her role will advance the College’s mission by overseeing fundraising initiatives and alumni relations.

Hybrid Body Lab brings sustainable e-textiles to NYC

Last month, as both New York Textile Month and Climate Week NYC  drew to a close, the Hybrid Body Lab (HBL) led a sustainable e-textile workshop in Manhattan. The event took place at 570 Lexington Avenue, Cornell’s midtown hub for research, learning and engagement.

Leitão, Loeckenhoff receive BCTR fellowships

Two Human Ecology faculty members have recently been awarded fellowships from the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR).

Corinna Loeckenhoff, the Janet and Gordon Lankton Professor of Developmental Psychology,  has been named the Rebecca Q. and James C. Morgan Engaged Faculty Fellow, and Renata Leitão, assistant professor in the Department of Human Centered Design, has been named the new Evalyn Edwards Milman Fellow. Both will serve in their roles through June 2027.
