Investigating the regulation of lipid metabolism in the liver and heart. Her research utilizes cellular and animal models to investigate the underlying mechanisms driving lipid accumulation in cardiomyocytes. In addition, she explores the role of a novel gene in the regulation of lipid metabolism and its connection to metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease.
Joy Yuri Kim
Joy Kim is a Ph.D. student in Human Nutrition working in Dr. Marla Lujan's lab. She earned a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell University and went on to complete a dietetic internship at the NIH Clinical Center, concentrating in clinical nutrition research. Larissa van der Zon
Larissa (M.S.) is a Ph.D. student in Molecular Nutrition. Before joining Prof. Sander Kersten’s lab, she earned a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Health from Wageningen University, where she developed a strong interest in immunometabolism. Her current research investigates how lipid metabolism shapes immune cell function, integrating in vitro immune models with a human fasting study using high-throughput metabolic and transcriptomic analyses. Her research could help uncover new therapeutic targets to restore impaired immune functions
Lauren Spiegel
Lauren is a Masters student in Nutritional Sciences working with Dr. Laura Bellows. Prior to Cornell, she received her Bachelor's of Science in Health Science at Wells College. Throughout the years, she has gained experiences working with adolescents, athletes, and clinical patients in nutrition. After Cornell, Lauren intends to become a Registered Dietitian, working in the field of sports nutrition and pediatric nutrition.
