Steps to Participate in CPT
1. Secure Approval and Complete Required Forms
- Obtain an official offer letter from your employer.
- Contact your academic advisor or department representative to identify the appropriate CPT approver.
- Complete the F1 CPT paperwork available here: https://international.globallearning.cornell.edu/employment-and-taxes/f-1-cpt
2. Enroll in HE 4997 Human Ecology Practical Training
- Register for the HE 4997 section aligned with your major.
- NOTE: HE 4997 is a 0.25 credit course graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U).
Enrollment Timing:
- Summer CPT: Enroll for the following Fall semester.
- Spring/Fall part-time CPT: Enroll during the same semester you are employed.
- Winter CPT: Enroll for the following Spring semester.
3. Complete Course Requirements
- Submit a brief reflection paper that describes your work experience and explains how it relates to your major’s learning objectives.
- Submission instructions will be provided at the start of the semester.
