NYC faculty discuss equity, community engagement
Faculty in Cornell’s Action Research Collaborative (ARC) joined New York City and State policymakers and community members for ARC’s second symposium on June 22. The annual symposium is an opportunity for researchers, policymakers and community stakeholders to share their knowledge and advance equity in areas like nutrition and health, housing and social services, and youth development.

CHE students reflect on work with community partners
Four community organizations partnering with Cornell Human Ecology students will receive funding as part of the college’s Community-Engaged Reflection Awards. The awards, given to two winners and two runners-up, are based on students’ written reflections about their learning experience with community partners.
This year’s winners are Noah Berg ’24, partnering with the Western New York Law Center in Buffalo, New York, and Jasmine Guarin ’24, partnering with Community Ambassadors in Ocean County, New Jersey. The

Two new faculty fellowships named in CHE
Two Cornell Human Ecology faculty members have recently been awarded fellowships, including one that was newly endowed.
Denise Green ’07, associate professor in the Department of Human Centered Design, has been named the inaugural Morgan Engaged Faculty Fellow, and Laura Bellows, associate professor in the Division of Nutritional Sciences, has been named the new Evalyn Edwards Milman ’60 Fellow, both in the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR). Bridging ambition and action students make an impact in NYC
Internships combine community-engaged learning and professional development
With nearly half of all internships unpaid, many college students face financial barriers and unequal access to professional opportunities. The CHE in NYC summer internship is fully funded, helping close that gap. It places Cornell Human Ecology students with community organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem.

Student Contribution Projects make positive change
The Contribution Project is once again funding student ideas to make the world a better place. Of the 100 students selected for the 2023 awards, 17 are in Cornell Human Ecology. Their projects range from improving campus gathering spaces, to providing toiletries to homeless people in Ithaca, to encouraging teenagers to help make blankets for children in South Africa.
