Digital Design and Fabrication Studio

The Digital Design and Fabrication Studio (D2FS) is an ecosystem of design computing resources, digital fabrication machines and professional services that support teaching and research needs for the department of Human Centered Design and the College of Human Ecology. The best way to engage D2FS is via the email addresses or the request forms listed below.

D2FS-HQ

D2FS-HQ is a controlled access facility. Within the facility, there are six zones—wood shop, electronics studio, assembly studio, paint room, laser studio, and 3D Print studio. The wood shop, Electronics studio, laser studio, and 3D print studio are supervised access zones. These zones may be accessed by students, both undergraduate and graduate, only when an approved faculty member or the technicians are present. The assembly studio and paint room are controlled access but unsupervised zones. Students who have received shop safety training may have unsupervised access to the assembly studio to assemble and finish their models.

D2FS-Lite

D2FS-Lite is a student-empowered maker space that has three 3D printers and a laser cutter. D2FS-Lite is limited to members of the HCD community. To gain 24/7 unsupervised access to the digital fabrication equipment, training and a certain number of supervised uses for each machine are required.
